Savanah Songer CPM, LM
I am certified professional midwife (CPM), licensed by the Board of Medicine. I have been attending births as a doula since 2010 and completed my midwifery training and apprenticeship in 2016.
My initial interest in birth came from attending the birth of my niece when I was a teenager. Years later during my first pregnancy, there was never a doubt that I would birth naturally. Despite the best laid plans, I had an unnecessary cesarean and a traumatic experience. While healing from my own birth, I became passionate about preventing other mothers from having the same experience. In 2010, I decided to turn my passion into a profession. I attended a DONA doula training and began my journey as a doula. A year later, I birthed again. This time I pushed my baby out at home, supported by a team that respected and loved me. It was the most amazing experience of my life.
My birth philosophy is simple. Women were meant to birth. When left alone, birth almost always happens perfectly. Women deserve to be provided with informed consent, respect and support in their birth choices. With these three things in place, birth will have more favorable outcomes.
